Extensions, renovations and new home design for homeowners across Ireland
Whether you’re extending, renovating or starting from scratch
Every project starts differently. You might live in a home you love but know could work better. You might have found a site with potential you can’t stop thinking about. Or you might be somewhere in between, weighing up your options and not quite sure what’s possible yet.
We work with homeowners across Ireland, with studios in Mount Merrion, Dublin and Hillsborough, Northern Ireland. Whether your project is in the heart of Dublin, along the coast, or somewhere further afield, we bring the same approach.
We listen, look at what you have, then design something that works for your life.
Extensions and renovations: make the most of the home you already have
Much of our work makes existing homes work harder. In Dublin especially, the housing stock is full of potential. Period terraces in Ranelagh and Rathgar. Detached homes in Foxrock and Blackrock. 1960s and 70s houses across the suburbs. These are homes worth investing in. They just need homeowners and an architect who can see what they could become.
The problems are often the same. A dark rear return. A ground floor divided into too many small rooms. A kitchen that turns its back on the garden. An old extension that never sat right and makes the whole house feel slightly wrong.
You probably already know what doesn’t work in your home. Our job is to fix it in a way you would never have thought of.
Sometimes that means extending: a new rear extension that opens up the ground floor, brings in natural light and gives you the kitchen, living and dining space your home has always lacked.
Sometimes it means renovating. We can rethink the layout room by room, remove walls that serve no purpose and create a flow that finally makes sense.
Most of the time, it means both.
That combination is where we do our best work. We don’t just add space and hope for the best. We look at your whole house and design a scheme where old and new feel like they were always meant to be together.
We also offer a full interior design and styling service for clients who want a completely resolved result, from the architecture right through to finishes, fixtures and furnishings.
New build homes: start from the ground up
Not every project begins with an existing house. Some of our clients find a site and want to build something entirely their own. It could be a coastal plot with views that deserve a home designed around them. Or a rural setting along the corridor north of Dublin towards Drogheda and beyond. Or an infill site in an established suburb where the existing property no longer does justice to the land.
New build sites in Greater Dublin are rare, which makes getting the design right even more important.
You have one chance to build exactly what you want on this piece of ground. We make sure that opportunity isn’t wasted.
We design new homes across Ireland. Every one starts with the same questions.
How do you live?
What does your site allow?
What will make this home feel like it belongs here and nowhere else?
Our second studio in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland means we also work with clients on sites north of the border, from rural plots in Donegal to established suburbs around Belfast.
“We hired McCann Moore Architects to design a family-friendly contemporary home and couldn’t be happier with their design. They really listened and understood what we wanted and needed for our lifestyle and put shape and practicality to our ideas, while also introducing us to new concepts. Their communication was excellent, always willing to meet, receive a call or answer an email, which is always a comfort at a daunting time. They were also very accurate with their proposed deadlines.”

How your house design project works with McCann Moore Architects
Every project starts with a conversation. We meet you at your home or site, listen to what you want to achieve and give you an honest view of what’s possible. There’s no commitment at this stage.
From there, we develop a design in close collaboration with you, manage the planning process on your behalf and produce the detailed drawings and specifications your builder will work from.
We stay involved throughout construction, carrying out regular site inspections to make sure what gets built matches what was designed.
We handle everything from first conversation to moving in, so you have one team guiding your project the whole way through.
Let's talk about your home design project
Whether you’re planning an extension, renovation, new build or something you’re not quite sure how to describe yet, we’d love to hear about it. Every home we design starts with a simple conversation.
